Low Temperature Piping
Installation & Design Considerations
Piping systems that operate at below ambient temperatures, present special considerations due to the possibility of water vapor migration to the cold pipe surface. Designers should carefully evaluate environmental conditions and long-term performance needs before selecting among any pipe insulation product.
Standard pipe insulation with ASJ is suitable for this application provided care is taken for proper installation and the system is maintained.
FIBERGLAS™ Pipe Insulation with Evolution™ Paper-Free ASJ is suitable for this application as well. The facing is impervious to moisture and moisture-related damage. Because the paper has been eliminated, there is no food source for mold growth.
VaporWick® pipe insulation is specifically designed for piping systems that operate at below ambient temperatures. VaporWick® incorporates a patented concept that utilizes a unique wicking material to remove condensed water from the system, keeping the insulation dry. Water vapor that enters the system and condenses on the cold pipe surface is removed to the outer surface by capillary action, where it then evaporates to the ambient air.
